1 nomination from readers

  • Dan has been the driving force behind Awel Aman Tawe. Dan was instrumental in getting Objective 1 funding to carry out the feasibility study for the Wind Farm which recently secured planning permission. Under his leadership with help of trustees, staff and volunteers Awel Aman Tawe has achieved the following awards:

2002 - Environment Wales 10 of the Best Award

2007 - HSBC voted in the top ten in the Regeneration Wales Awards.

2007 -WCVA Wales Volunteer of the Year Award - highly commended

Dan himself was a finalist in the Ernst and Young Entrepreneur of the year award 2007 in the social enterprise category.

Awel Aman Tawe was one of six projects chosen at climate change conference in Johannesburg 2002.

Awel Aman Tawe has suffered a number of setbacks due to the planning process – each time Dan has inspired all involved in the project to continue and not to give up hope. Had it not been for his dedication and inspirational leadership, the project would have folded years ago. This area has suffered much due coal mine and factory closure in the last 25 years; the Awel Aman Tawe project is sorely needed.

Nominated by Emily Hinshelwood, 28 September 2009
